Seaside Initial Packaging Ideas

Packaging design is a very important component in protecting the product whilst in transit; it is also a vital component of marketing.
Marketing a product is about creating differentiation from other designs and designers, to set yourself apart from everyone else. Marketing is a key part present within packaging as it must compliment the packaging and will therefore successfully promote your branding and your products.
Before starting it was beneficial to measure the size of the bowl to get a clear idea of how big the packaging will need to be. The Seaside bowl measured 350 x 350 x 70mm, therefore the box will  be square.

The initial sketches and designs focused away from a traditional shaped box. These designs, though interesting or slightly quirky did not complement neither the OH design or Seaside brand.
Designs incorporating the bowl pattern into the box shape were quickly discarded as it cheapened the brand and the clean, simple, sophisticated look I was trying to achieve.

To achieve the clean, simple, sophisticated look I was trying to achieve, I decided to keep the box simple and incorporate a sleeve which encompasses the bowl pattern in some form, thus providing an impact through graphics which complement the bowl rather than the structure of the box which would take the focus away from the bowl, which is what the packaging is all about.
