For a design to be laser cut, a vector file
needs to be sent to the laser-cutting machine, where the machine reads the data
and uses this information to cut the chosen material. Below is a picture of the
file sent to the laser cutter. This is an illustrator file, where the line
width is set to 0.25 pt, and the colour is red. The colour of the line tells
the laser cutter to either cut or engrave the material.
After the pattern is cut out of the
material, all the laser cutters markings need to be sanded away, before heating
up the plastic and placing it over a mold (in our case, a wok), so it bends to
shape.
