Initial Meristem Box Design

This is the initial box design which I came to
through some initial sketching done in class.
The simplicity of the box and cardboard is
what attracted me to this design, because it
really shows off the pattern, especially since
the bowl protrudes the box. This allows the
most important aspect of the design to be
shown off and felt by the consumer.
It wasn’t until I had made a mock up of this
design and presented it to Richard that I realised
it doesn’t protect the bowl sufficiently.
This kind of packaging could only be used
on something that is not so fragile. When I
designed the protrusion, I thought the main
issue I had to overcome was how to stack
the boxes so they can be stored during the
exhibition.
The way I overcame this design issue was
cutting a hole of the same size in the bottom.
This allowed the protrusion to rest
safely in the box above, allowing the stack
to be very neat and aesthetically pleasing.
