Halcyon Press

In order to achieve the desired organic form of the halcyon bowl a press was to be produced. Initially, a bird wire mesh was bent and stretched, forming it into a shape which was reminiscent of visual flow of the pattern.

An enclosure made of timber was used to attach the wire mesh to and plaster was then poured into the box. Just before the plaster hardened the plaster was dragged over the wire mesh and the excess plaster was disposed.

A negative mold was produced by extending the enclosure of the initial walls and coating the original form in Vaseline. Plaster was then poured in and a lid was placed on top, with the walls later removed.
