I started researching packaging and branding once given the brief, as it was the predominant design process of this project,
as the bowls are ready to be made. This search, as usual, started with a really basic
and general search on the internet for what
makes packaging stand out.
This picture of Lola’’s cupcakes really uses
the plain recycled cardboard look with minimal
text and makes it look very deliberate and aesthetically pleasing. I was already
starting to realise that as far as packaging goes, less is more. This is because the
simplicity and simple structure of the packaging plays with the complexity and, in this
case colours, of what is being packaged.
A simple package design would beautifully
contrast the complexity and detail of my
fruit bowl.
Quickly into the research of the fundamentals
of packaging, I also realised that the
more that the packaging plays with the
product, either by revealing what’’s inside,
playing with graphics, or both, the better
the final outcome is.
This is particularly clear in the Jacobs pasta
packaging seen above. The packaging
clearly shows the consumer what they are
about to purchase, using not only that the
sell the product, but combining it with a
tasteful photo of the pasta once it is ready
to eat. This appetizing photo and the contents
of the packaging compliment each
other perfectly, and it is what i want to emulate
with my packaging.
