Zhiyuan Wang_ Bag and Market Day

I purchased 10 paper pags with blank surfaces, stick my logo onto every fronts. If I need to make bags myself, I might spend lots of time of it, so buying existing bags saved my time. I printed the big logo on transparent paper, then stick onto the front of tha bag, when customer buying my money box, I can give them the bag instead of carry the box.
The bottom picture shows my shop at 'market day', all the table and tablecloth are prepared before 9am, I placed my packgings in order, present the money box at front. That day I sold 4 products, not as I expected.
I think there are lots of things I could develop if I have another chance to do it. Such as packging, I could add more information on it. Furthemore, for the market day, I should buy a black tablecloth because whith does not really present the white object, if it is black, my money box will stand up more. After all, this day is memorable, I did not only just receive fatigue, but also experience of selling stuff, and I got to know everything is not simple even selling things.

Zhiyuan Wang_ Swing Tag

I used stickers as the swing tag. There was no such a place to hanging a real swing tag, so I chose stickers. The stickers was a minimised logo, attached on top of the coin slot. It is also a decoration as the 'swing tag' is triangle as well. In addition, to make sure the money box not moving inside the packging, I had some fillers around the money box.

Zhiyuan Wang_ Developed Packaging

This step I designed the outlook of the packaging.
The whole pattern is same size as the packaging pattern. At front, you can see the big logo of my design, at back is my inspiration and description of my design, size, material and care instructions are at bottom side.

Zhiyuan Wang_ Packaging

I was not confident with the packaging, cause I had no experience of it, so after some research, I made my starting point as the basic demonstration of it : protecting the product and looks gentle. I made a paper mock up at first, after several development, this design came up.
It is a triangle cone shape packaging, with a lock at bottom. You can only open the front side to take out the money box. Inside the packaging, product will be laied down. All edges are glued, the whole body is secure and stable, it protects the money box well.

Zhiyuan Wang_ Logo Design

Start with the basic shape of the money box, I came up with this logo design. I chose three different colous as background, several geometric symbols at front. Why the name is 'Triangle' is because I did not have an idea for my money box design, so like someone says 'simple is the best', I just use the simplest name. Also, to rich the pattern, I attached the outline of the money box and a sign.

Zhiyuan Wang_ Making 10 Money boxes

First step is make 10 copies of my design. Copy is not simple as I expected, it needs me focus on every step, such as assembling the mould, pouring the plaster into the mould. Furthemore, time saving is another issue, cause making 10 money boxes takes lots of time waiting, so I need to use the time efficiently. For instance, when I wait for the plaster dry, I can clean the previous one and make coin slot. During this step, I had one money box failed, because I spent less time drying it. In conclusion, you still need patience when you doing something looks like simple.

Gossamer by Karina: Market Day

Selling my fruit bowls at Carriageworks market was a great experience for me because although the thought of talking and trying to convince market goers to buy my bowl freaked me out, I was able to learn many things and towards the end reevaluate my overall design ethic and selling technique.

From what I gathered from market day, the most important observation I found was that the mass market generally preferred consistency and had  a "less is more" attitude towards design and materiality. Even after everything's finished, realising what appealed to the mass market during that day will always be important.  If ever I get the chance to sell my fruit bowls again, I would be able to recreate or improve the way I design and create according to what customers really want to see and buy. Although what I presented to the market weren't exactly simple or consistent, I was still able to sell 8 out of 10 bowls which I thought was pretty good considering the variety of fruit bowls the customers got to choose from. Other than observing what the mass market wanted for future reference, I really did enjoy the experience of selling our individual products that we as a class worked extremely hard on to complete!
